Empty brain.. Devils Workshop.
Oscar Wilde..
-Oscar Wilde
(Thats what I do.. )
"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation. "
-Oscar Wilde
(I'm the number one example.. these quotes ;) )
PS:Read his quotes if you get some time. Some are extreme, but some are interesting.
Nostradamus - 08
The most sickening thing is.. I always believed that I will be like this some time or the other..
But why it is sickening.. ?? Let me talk about my future.. the way I see now...
Will get married, some kids, no Ph. D. (don't believe if say.. i will go for Ph. D.).. Going step by step in my profession..
How this is going to happen.. whatever.. opinions I have will slowly.. get faded.. with time. Then, what ever happens next is obvious..
PS: I never commit to anything.. making myself obvious. ;)

communication efficiency.. & predictability
survival.. is the important aspect of any group act staring from living in a society.. If they do not want to survive.. they are not part of it. Let us talk about communication. As people always say, listening is an important part (survival mechanism). People use different approaches/modes.. what I say survive.... (in communication)
Stupids... a mode of a person who feels his survival is guaranteed..
Stylists... a mode of a person, who attracts listeners by some sort of style which is irrelevant to the communication.
Egotist... a person, who believes in attracting listeners by providing a compelling argument. falls back to listener if a superior idea/theme is provided.
Improvisers... a mode, which is similar to egotist.. except the lack of a compelling starting point.
Listeners.. I guess no need to explain..
Survivalist... just survive.
Uselessist ;) .. a mode in which a person could not follow.. the surroundings.
Escapist.. a mode.. took a decision not to survive..
I observed all these modes in.. me. Now we can mix and match these to find out the result of that group act which has a given purpose. I skipped.. so may points in this description 'cas of my inability to qualify them. I wish communication/social activity to be predictable. As a matter of fact it is not.
Useful Hint: Easy way to survive.. (except with stupids) push them to a situation where they need listeners. Example is one to one conversation.... ;)
PS: A cynic trying to qualify the HUMAN factor.
Edit: I guess I've been thinking way too much now a days.. ;) so.. rest for sometime...
Nothing is happening..

Quote..
long as possible.”
— J. P. Boyd, paraphrasing T. S. Eliot
Why do I write? take# 2
my opinion hasn't changed much from take#1 ;)
PS: A lot of opinions change so drastically with me.. just checking ;).

Incidentally..
Let me give the background. I'm talking about a fluid dynamics problem of simulating Bingham-plastic fluid in an annulus. People who know about the physical situation will easily recognise the problem that the center part of the fluid should move like a slug (a solid).
To recognise the exact nature of the problem it took me a working discussion with my friend. Let me explain the complexity of it.
Let us assume a filter cake on (bingham plastics are typical suspensions) some wall.. Till certain gradient that filter cake is a solid.. after that it should be a fluid. We can talk in terms of stresses also same way. The important point to understand here is we do not have any clue for the stress strain relations of the solid portion (It can not be treated as bingham fluid for obvious reasons). So we can get the stresses very near to the solid cells (cell is a typical computing unit if CFD) and check whether it is fluid or not. But it is not the information in the solid portion which makes the solid portion to be untouchable by.. fluid gradients. What it tells...
is once you identify some part as solid, it remains as solid to the end.
All this is because of the way we are treating the solid. If we say it is rigid solid (no internal gradients) it will behave as a rigid one. But in reality solids do follow some machanics and there by having some internal gradients (after crossing certain magnitude.. it will turn into fluid) which we do not know.
So.. what I did is, for the sake of simplicity, assumed it as a high viscos Newtonian fluid, which keeps the gradients inside to ALMOST (but stills have them and will evolve) zero and there by allowing us to manipulate it through solid to fluid transition. (Fluid to solid transition is easy as we know the detail of the bingham plastic fluid).
All the garbage is over.. I've sent a mail explaining all this boring stuff to my lead. Guess what..??
he came and asked me... Is this the way fluent does this.. ?? I have seen it asking an effective viscosity which is very large..... blah..... blah.......
love this....
PS#1: fluent solver is much more^n stable.. but it seems I got my logic correct..
PS#2: It is always been difficult for me to keep the discussion at other's pace.. Some can really do it..

Love & Hate
If you have these.. and you are capable of showing corresponding expressions..
First one keeps you closer to the things you like..
and the later keep you away from the things you are not comfortable with..
bottom line.. natural acts to be in comfort zone!! ;)
Business model.. and money!!
because of a successful idea that has been already established. Not my plan. Not my money..??
No Indeed it is my money. But what happens to me and money in absence of that successful idea? Am I worth this much..??
Yes!! There are lot of options... there are a lot of successful ideas which needs MANPOWER. So I'm still valuable.
There is a fallacy in evaluating me like this!!
PS: satisfaction is a relative term.

A take on Microsoft Office Excel.. ;)
If you praise one open source program.. then it is customary to bash some Microsoft program ;). I'm using excel for almost one year for all my work. It is a good tool. But see the above article, it is talking about Microsofts inability to properly implement a specific Random number Generator (Hill-RNG).
GNUPLOT in action.
In scientific publications the use of GNUPLOT for high quality graphs and plots is well known. But the above publication describes its research grade curve fitting capabilities. Love this...
JP of Loksatta
Have you ever heard of Dr. Jayaprakash Narayanan of Loksatta party.. spare some time to watch these videos. I guess these lectures he gave at mumbai unirversity. It is unlikely to see this kind of moral and conceptual integrity in people.

Staedtler...

Long time back.. I heard somebody telling "If you find something perfectly designed, the probability of it made in Germany is more." When I first heard about it I felt like it is over exaggeration.
Coming to the point.. today I had a pen in my hand. The exact model that is there in the above pic. Some how I liked the design. And I checked the model and make.. guess what.?? it is from a German maker "STAEDTLER"
Rodeo
Rodeo is sort of game that cowboys play in some states of America. This what I know about it. Anyways this is the video we shot during a rodeo show. "Wild horse riding"
Dynamic scultpure with ferrofluids..
PS: I found this video in some one's orkut profile. Just try a search with "ferrofluid" in youtube you will get some more nice videos

Consistancy..
The consistancy I'm talking is about the nature of the problems. :)
And why am I talking about all these non sense now..?? Yes! I was working on a problem and running into lot of problems. It is good to see things happening every minute.
What else is happening..?? I saw a couple of movies like Indira, Yuva, Chirunavvuto. The common thing or theme in all these movies is you will find atleast one single stubburn/confident personality/character.

IISc... a recap!! (Visual)
IISc... a recap!!
I tried to write something on IISC when I was in IISc but couldn't. Now.. when I look back.. It was like a dream..
When we first entered the campus, it welcomed us with chilly breezes, rain every day... first impression was what a wonderful climate. A torturuous course work.. as most of my classmates say.. but I enjoyed the class work. Infact those impression were still on me. This working for 8hrs is no way considered as working for me..
Some shocks at the end of the first sem. But eventually when we got the results, it was a nice feel for me. Second sem.. I always enjoy the final days before giving the end exam.. The reason may be I will be fully occupied with only one thing.. studies..
Second sem was over.. now it is project. I was left alone with a problem of mine.. My boss kept me on running toes... all the time.. It was terribly hard to catch him. But in the mean time I fouind an other wonderfull companian.. C++. I heard some nice comments about C++. and enjoyed programming with it. That was the best part of my project.
There is an other side to this also.. working.. sitting before code.. for almost 5 months to find bugs.. and eventually knowing that it is not my mistake.. the theory that supports my works has a flaw.. I still remember the day when I spoke to my Boss and after that just simply stading on the balocony..
Meanwhile so many things happened. Jobs.. is the worstest part that I have seen these two years. Trying to project something before some stupids... and not able meet their stupidity. Now I am able to see them directly and most importantly i'm a part of all these....
And what else.. Gymkhana, Shanti Sangar Restaurent, Coffee board, Tea Kiosk.. Friends, Boss, Gibbs.. and what not... a life that I ever wanted to live..
PS: This I wrote some time back somewhere.. Today I happened to find that. Just felt like putting it here..

Hacker ethic
"As Levy stated in the preface of Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution, the general tenets or principles of hacker ethic include:
- Sharing
- Openness
- Decentralization
- Free access to computers
- World Improvement
In addition to those principles listed above, Levy also described more specific hacker ethics and beliefs in chapter 2, The Hacker Ethic. The ethics he described in chapter 2 are quoted here.
Access to computers—and anything which might teach you something about the way the world works—should be unlimited and total. Always yield to the Hands-On Imperative!
- All information should be free.
- Mistrust Authority—Promote Decentralization.
- Hackers should be judged by their hacking, not bogus criteria such as degrees, age, race, or position.
- You can create art and beauty on a computer.
- Computers can change your life for the better."
